The purpose of the article is to investigate the current state and prospects of domestic processing plants in both Ukrainian and foreign markets, as well as to assess the impact of customs policy on their development. Methodology. The methodological basis of the work was the scientific achievements of Ukrainian and foreign experts in the field of processing and state regulation of waste movement. Given the emergence of a large amount of new information, the authors focused on processing the materials of scientific collections and journals, as well as data from Internet resources, which provide statistical information, the views of leading practitioners. While writing the article, research methods such as logical generalization, systematic approach and theoretical search were used, which are based on information search and processing. Results. Ukraine is one of countries that import sorted garbage. However, this fact does not add reason for optimism. If many countries import waste after the maximum processing of their own, then we have a predominant practice of landfilling, and therefore domestic raw materials for the proper functioning of the few processing plants are catastrophically lacking. Because of this, Ukrainian companies are simply forced to import, and the state is making efforts to stimulate such imports and control the export of strategically important resources. An effective customs policy is not enough for the normal functioning of the processing industry in Ukraine. The priority of state and local authorities should be to organize work on the allocation of valuable components from garbage, and this in turn is not possible without the large-scale introduction of separate garbage collection, the organization of an efficient logistics and processing system. The development of the processing industry can create up to 400 thousand additional jobs and provide up to 4-5 billion UAH of GDP annually. In addition, the reuse of waste significantly reduces the use of natural resources and imports. Practical significance. The obtained results can be used in the work of domestic enterprises, as well as regulatory policy bodies.
